What are solar rebates?

Solar rebates are financial incentives provided by governments, utilities and other organisations to encourage the adoption of solar energy. When you book a consultation and site inspection with Solarpex, we guide you through the applicable federal incentives and Victorian rebates that may be available to help reduce the upfront cost of your switch to solar power, batteries or EV charging.

Federal rebates

The Federal Government's Renewable Energy Target supports incentive programs for solar power, differentiated by installation size. These incentives are available to everyone — including those upgrading existing solar systems.

Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs)

• Eligibility: systems under 100 kW, for both residential and commercial use
• Incentive type: point-of-sale discount — you see it straight off your quote
• Value: based on your system size and the current STC price, which is tradeable like shares
• Location: your rebate rate is influenced by postcode — Australia is divided into five rebate zones, and the zone that applies to you is determined by the postcode of your Victorian installation address
• Price stability: STC prices have remained broadly stable since mid-2018, though they fluctuated significantly before that

Victorian incentives

For eligible Victorian properties and customers, Victorian Government solar programs are administered by Solar Victoria, and retailer feed-in tariffs may also apply. Eligibility and approval for Solar Victoria programs are determined by Solar Victoria — not Solarpex — and each program has its own criteria. We keep track of what's current so you don't have to — your written proposal will show the incentives you appear to be eligible for, subject to confirmation by the relevant provider.
